8-29-16 Micro-story (prompt word: merge)

The car careened across three lanes. I swerved to avoid an orange barricade, and the wheels screeched in protest.
“Merge here and then turn left,” Mark shouted.
“Where?” I tried to keep frantic eyes on the road and follow his pointing finger.
“Right there,” He cried.
“You mean at the ‘No Left Turn’ sign?”
“Yes!”
“I hate when people do that!”
“Even if it keeps them alive?”
“Good point.”

(I hope you enjoyed this morning’s story. I write these micro-stories from a prompt word in one minute. I can edit as much as I want after the one minute but the bones have to be there before the alarm rings. This one ended up being mostly dialog, and it’s true. I hate it when people turn left from a No Left Turn lane. 🙂

I did this same, “micro-story a day” skill-building project in 2010. It revolutionized my writing and prompted the development of my “Flash Your Fiction” workshop for writers. To see the stories from that project, go here.”)
